sport the link

Most of the sports media in New Zealand is pretty crap. There are a bunch of good blogs out there doing a much better job.

For instance, Richard from sports review nz is funny and good at using the web to take the piss. Ruggerblogger is busy profiling teams in the rugby world cup, while sports after dark has tons of posts about rugby and rugby.

I enjoyed the post from dropkicks about the All Blacks unwanted 15.

Also of note, was this interesting article suggesting the NZRU run a team in the UK.

Read and enjoy . . .

We lost the America’s cup and I am bitter

Team New Zealand lost the America’s cup to Alinghi and I am bitter.

Bitter that we got beaten by Kiwi’s that I look at as traitors. Because that’s what they are.

Brad Butterworth - you really suck.

Now, I know it’s wrong to be bitter and that they are not really traitors, and that we had an American and an Australian on our team, and it’s not really a New Zealand team and all that. But I am still as bitter as hell.

It would have rocked it we defended the cup. My house may have increased in value. Only good things could have come from it. Now it’s all doom and gloom.

Traitors I tell you. Brad Butterworth and . . .and . . .and all those other former New Zealanders really really suck.

I really hope we win the America’s Cup.

Earlier this year I questioned whether Kiwi’s care about the America’s Cup, and indeed some of us do, and now that the challenge has started my interest level has increased.

Not because I am a sailing fan – I’m not. But I understand the impact that hosting another America’s cup will have on Auckland and New Zealand.

With us hosting the 2011 Rugby World cup, hosting the yachting in the same year (or in 2012) will be great for NZ – just like Sydney hosting the 2000 Olympics and then the 2003 Rugby World Cup.

Basically, it will be great for the economy, and that is a good enough reason to take an interest in sailing. Mind you I’m still sleeping when the racing is on, but Team New Zealand still has my support!

Do Kiwi’s care about the America’s Cup?

Ok, so apparently we beat Spain over night in the America’s Cup. Oops, I mean the Louis Vuitton.

Does anyone really care?

As an NZ’er I hope we win the damm thing, I really do. As an Aucklander I also hope we win, because of the economic benefits to our city. I also hope Butterworth’s team losses, because the man is a dead set traitor.

But I gotta be honest, and admit there is no passion for this event. If we lose, I won’t be gutted. I’ll get up have some toast and head off to work, wondering whether or not the Warriors are going to win that weekend.

So far the best thing about the cup is hearing the TV reporters pronounce the word Valencia‘ the correct way . . . . ‘Valenthia’

Actually I also had a chuckle early on when there was not wind. There was a report on the radio saying that ‘light winds wreak havoc at the cup’ Funny as its usually heavy winds that wreak havoc . . .

Anyways, do you care? If so then why?
